A beau­ti­ful­ly designed inner-city map for nav­i­gat­ing the hotspots of Rochdale.

Rochdale is a city with an incred­i­ble his­to­ry. As the loca­tion for the found­ing of the Coop­er­a­tive move­ment, Rochdale has a lot to be proud of. The thing is, as you walk around, you soon realise that there is plen­ty on offer down every street and around every corner.

Rochdale Busi­ness Improve­ment Dis­trict is on a five year jour­ney to enhance oppor­tu­ni­ty for the busi­ness­es of Rochdale. One of their objec­tives is to rebrand the cen­tre and give Rochdale its own unique iden­ti­ty. We are hon­oured to be a part of this jour­ney, hav­ing worked with Rochdale BID to cre­ate a num­ber of icon­ic logos for dis­tinct quar­ters around the city already.

Fol­low­ing on from that work, they asked us to pro­duce a map of the town cen­tre, one that would high­light the major hotspots of the town, and one that was func­tion­al as an actu­al map, as well as beautiful.

We cre­at­ed a num­ber of dif­fer­ent for­mats — a two-sided tri­fold print brochure, a vinyl for shop win­dows, a bill­board, and a more detailed ver­sion includ­ing addi­tion­al infor­ma­tion about the major land­marks in the city. We then cre­at­ed a num­ber of ani­mat­ed tiles for social media to fur­ther add val­ue to the map.

Now found across the city, this map has become a focal point for the res­i­dents and vis­i­tors alike, and is anoth­er step towards increas­ing Rochdale’s profile.
